WHAT WE DID IN CLASS TODAY:
We finished our discussion about the strengths and weaknesses of man and machine and then we reread "The City". We held a silent discussion about the following topics:
1. Cite one passage illustrating the city's very clinical and precise mechanics.
2. All of these men, especially Smith, feel anxious while entering the city. Should they have ignored these feelings? What is Bradbury saying about the role of intuition and the "sixth sense"?
3. Why is it especially fitting that the newly robotic Captain shoots Smith in the heart?
7. What is the theme of the story?
8. Link the vulnerability of these characters with the vulnerability of the characters in any other story in The Illustrated Man
HOMEWORK:
Because the hardcover edition of The Illustrated Man does not have "The Fire Balloons," I substituted "Zero Hour" for it.
