Today,the English department began the first wave of grading the timed writings/baseline essays. We began the day "norming" on the SAT rubric so we will consistently grade timed essays during the coming year. Once we were all normed, we began to score our students' essays. As we scored, we kept a list of learning objectives for the year for our students and goals for improving the English curriculum at Samohi.
While I was out, Ms. Atkinson lead the students through a discussion of Kindred.
HOMEWORK: Read "Eleven" by Sandra Cisneros and mark up for voice elements: diction, syntax, imagery. Also, students must have their outside reading books in class tomorrow.
