CLASS:  1.  Writer's Notebook 2.  Reviewed the parts of an argument: main claim, reasons, supporting details/evidence.  3.  Watched 11 minute video clip from The News Hour with Jim Lehrer about Prop 227 and bilingual education in California.  4.  Discussed the arguments for and against Prop 227 that were presented in the video.   5.  Discussed "First Draft Reading"  responsibilities:  It is the reader who is in charge of the reading and should be conscious of the thinking going on inside his/her head.  Students must know when they are confused with the reading and mark those parts with questions/ comments about the confusion.  That is what should be written in the margins on the "first draft read."
6.  Handout for reading:  excerpt from "Aria" by Richard Rodriguez.

HOMEWORK:  "First Draft Read" and annotation of excerpt from "Aria".  Due on Thursday.  Bring Independent Reading Book to class tomorrow (Wednesday).
