WHAT WE DID IN CLASS TODAY:
We began our class today by getting organized! A challenge for many 9th grade students is staying organized the entire semester so that studying for the comprehensive semester exam will be a breeze. Each student should have three sections in his/her 2" binder: class notes/handouts, vocabulary, writing. For the class notes/handout section we began a running table of its contents on the handout below. Each time we receive a handout or take a page of notes, we will enter it in the table of contents and number it. Furthermore, we pasted the "Keeping a Writer's Notebook" handout on the inside front cover of our Writer's Notebooks. Finally we finished going over the definitions of the word list from A Long Way Gone. Here is the list:
1. coup - 14 (n.)
2. resonate - 16 (v.)
3. adage - 16 (n.)
4. skeptical - 48 (adj.)
5. indelibly - 51 (adv.)
6. disconsolate - 65 (adj.)
7. stagnant - 90 (adj.)
8. vehemently - 96 (adv.)
9. respite - 106 (n.)
10. jovial - 128 (adj.)
All numbers refer to the page on which it appears in A Long Way Gone
