NOTES FROM T217

Wednesday began well. All the students made it to class on time, avoiding the tardy torture! And, to add cream to the pie, all students had open on their desks their writer's notebooks and vocabulary homework before the bell rang! Some were even already scribbling madly in their notebooks their responses to this morning's prompt:

In A Long Way Gone, Ishmael Beah reflects on the subject of “painful memories. Memories I sometimes wish I could wash away, even though I am aware that they are an important part of what my life is; who I am now” (19).

While few of us have had as traumatic a childhood as Ishmael Beah, most of us have some painful memories that haunt us. To what extent do painful memories play a meaningful role in our lives? Would it be better to be able to forget them?

We continued on with our discussion of A Long Way Gone by taking notes (Cornell Note format) on the first three minutes of a documentary entitled "Bling" and a PowerPoint presentation about the history of Sierra Leone.

HOMEWORK:
The free choice summer reading book report is finally due tomorrow. Expect to make a 2-3 minute presentation to the class about the book.
